Student Protest: High-Powered Committee Begins Its Work

The five-member high-powered committee appointed to investigate the incidents of violence and protests, including those at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, has begun its work.
The committee is headed by former Supreme Court Justice R. Subhash Reddy. Its Member Secretary is Malayalam-speaking Srinivas Kammath, who retired as the Joint Registrar of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).The Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant has asked the committee to give priority to investigating allegations concerning the humiliation of girls/women and the planned acts of violence. The committee is expected to soon begin various procedures, including recording evidence and examining witnesses.
Srinivas Kammath, had earlier served in various positions at both the National Human Rights Commission and the Supreme Court. After his retirement, he was working as a Delhi Special Judicial Magistrate.
